2027: I Don’t See Atiku Getting 10% In Any Southern State – Udenta

Former National Secretary of the defunct Alliance for Democracy (AD), Professor Udenta Udenta, has shared his opinion on the race for Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election.

Naija News reports that he said the contest will be difficult and that candidates must secure support from different parts of the country to stand a good chance of winning.

Speaking during an interview on Arise News on Thursday, Udenta said the constitutional requirement for a presidential candidate to score at least 25 percent of the votes in no fewer than 24 states remains one of the biggest hurdles in the election.

He expressed doubts about the chances of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar meeting that requirement, especially in the Southern region.

According to Udenta, he does not believe Atiku will be able to secure even 10 percent of the votes in any Southern state, making it difficult for him to satisfy the constitutional spread needed to emerge president.

Udenta said the South will once again play an important role in deciding the outcome of the 2027 presidential election.

He added that no candidate can rely mainly on support from one region if they hope to win the country’s highest office.

He said: “Atiku may not get up to 10 percent of the vote in any Southern state,  winning 25 percent of the votes in at least 24 states will not be easy. The South will be a major battleground in 2027, no candidate can depend on one region. Political parties must strengthen their grassroots structures, improve campaign organisation, expand their reach, and mobilise voters to build nationwide support.”
