Neymar Reveals Emotional Moment After Brazil’s Win Over Scotland
Brazil forward Neymar has revealed he broke down in tears after making his first appearance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and helping his country secure a commanding 3-0 win over Scotland.
Neymar, 34, came off the bench in the second half on Wednesday night as Brazil sealed top spot in Group C with seven points. Neymar replaced Matheus Cunha after missing the team’s opening two matches against Morocco and Haiti because of a calf injury.
Brazil’s win was powered by a brace from Vinicius Junior and a goal from Matheus Cunha, ensuring the five-time world champions finished the group stage unbeaten.
Speaking after the match, an emotional Neymar admitted the occasion ranked among the most memorable moments of his career.
“No doubt, I rate this as one of the most special days of my career. It’s every boy’s dream to play for Seleção, and I’ve been given this chance,” Neymar said.
“I’ve been away for many days now, and I missed it and was eager to get back. I felt a big relief today. I got a bit emotional and cried alone afterwards, because it feels so good to live all of this one more time.
“I thank every Brazilian fan who rooted for me, especially my family and my friends.”
Neymar also reserved special praise for Vinicius Junior, who continued his impressive tournament with two goals against Scotland.
The Santos star described the Real Madrid winger as Brazil’s standout performer at the competition so far.
“Vinicius Jr is our star at this World Cup. He’s deciding games, he’s doing great,” Neymar said.
Vinicius has now scored four goals in three World Cup matches, having also found the net against Morocco and Haiti.
