NECO Releases 2026 BECE Results For 186,291 Candidates

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) taken by 186,291 candidates across Nigeria and five foreign countries.

The council said the candidates sat for 12 subjects in the 36 states of the federation, the Federal Capital Territory and five foreign countries.

The examination commenced on April 20 and ended on April 30, 2026.

In a statement on Wednesday, NECO’s Director of Public Relations, Azeez Sani, said the results were approved for release following the successful conclusion of the 2026 BECE Award Committee Meeting held at the council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.

The Chairperson of the Award Committee and Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education, Dr Folake David, who represented the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the examination and the process leading to the release of the results.

The meeting was attended by secondary school principals from across the country and members of the NECO management.

The committee also approved July 22 and 23, 2026, for the BECE resit examination in Mathematics and English Studies.

According to NECO, the resit is for candidates with deficiencies in either Mathematics, English Studies or both subjects.

The council said the exercise would enable affected candidates to remedy the deficiencies and obtain the certification required for admission into Senior Secondary School One without repeating an academic session.
