I Don’t See The Level Of Hunger Nigerians Are Complaining About – Onanuga

The Presidency has rejected claims that hunger is widespread across Nigeria, saying many citizens are benefiting from the policies and programmes introduced by President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Naija News reports that Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, made this known during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme on Tuesday.

According to him, several government projects and economic measures are already making a difference in the lives of Nigerians.

He said recent developments in infrastructure and access to financial support for workers show that the administration’s policies are producing results.

Onanuga maintained that many of the claims about widespread hunger do not match what he personally observes in his interactions with people.

The presidential aide said he regularly speaks with those around him and believes the situation being portrayed by some critics does not fully reflect the experiences of all Nigerians.

He also referred to the increase in the national minimum wage under the Tinubu administration, noting that workers now earn much more than before following the government’s decision to raise the wage level.

He said: “It’s like in the early days of this government. I think the president went to Lagos, I think, he was coming from a central mosque, and somebody now did a voiceover in “Ebi pawa”, and that means we are hungry. Since then, people have been saying that we are hungry.

“I’m a Nigerian, I have people working for me privately. I don’t see the level of one hunger you people are talking about because I see them, and I keep asking them questions. How are things? How are they adjusting? What are the problems?

“This government has increased the minimum wage by more than 100%.”
