Terrorists Abduct OPC Member, Two Others During Ransom Delivery

A chieftain of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), Comrade Bayo Fabiyi, has reportedly been abducted alongside two other persons in Oko-Irese, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.

Fabiyi was said to have been kidnapped alongside a driver and another associate while travelling to deliver ransom and other items meant to secure the release of an earlier kidnap victim.

Sources said the team was conveying about ₦30 million, five motorcycles and three bags of rice when armed men ambushed them in the area.

The ransom delivery was reportedly linked to efforts to secure the release of a victim who had earlier been abducted in the community.

Vanguard reports that a source familiar with the incident claimed that the earlier victim had allegedly been killed by the kidnappers before the ransom team arrived, but those sent to deliver the items were unaware of the development.

The abductors were said to have directed the team into a forested route linking Kwara and Kogi states before seizing them at gunpoint.

It was gathered that the incident was not immediately reported to security agencies.

When contacted, the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, said the command had not been formally informed of any kidnapping involving an OPC member at the time of inquiry.

He said the police would investigate the matter once an official report is received.
