Ekiti Poll: ‘It Was Full Of Intimidation’ – SDP Candidate

The governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the 2026 Ekiti State election, Peter Obafemi, has alleged irregularities in Saturday’s poll.

Obafemi, who spoke on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, claimed the election was marred by vote-buying and intimidation.

“I think it was full of intimidation,” he said.

Obafemi alleged that he saw money being distributed at his polling unit.

“Well, I will put it like this: in my own polling unit, I went to cast my vote; coming out, I was shocked. I saw someone with bagloads of money,” he said.

He claimed the person involved belonged to “one of these major parties and is being protected by the police.”

The SDP candidate added, “I am not alleging. I saw it in my own polling unit.”

He accused the police and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of being “very compromised” in the conduct of the poll.

Obafemi, who scored 179 votes in the election, urged INEC to tackle vote-buying ahead of the 2027 general election.

He asked the commission to “look into ways that they can help Nigerians for this general election that is coming up: how they can abort this act of vote-buying.”

He also alleged that some of his campaign banners were pulled down before the election.

INEC had declared Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner after he polled 319,224 votes.

The Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Oluwole Oluyede scored 40,543 votes, while Dare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 12,872 votes.
