PDP Wins Rivers South-East Senatorial By-Election
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Senator Olaka Nwogu, the winner of the Rivers South-East senatorial by-election held on Saturday.
Naija News reports that the Returning Officer for the election, Rosemary Ogu, said Nwogu polled 47,961 votes to win the election contested by four political parties.
Ogu said Douglas Beke Fabeke of the Action Alliance (AA) scored 1,175 votes, while Osarosaka Ebenezer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 1,647 votes.
The Labour Party (LP) candidate, Sam Bariboa, scored 367 votes.
Nwogu will replace Senator Barinada Mpigi, who died in office on February 19, 2026.
All the parties and candidates in the election were said to belong to the Rainbow coalition formed ahead of the 2027 elections by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
APC Wins Kano By-election
Meanwhile, APC has won the Dawakin Kudu Federal Constituency by-election in Kano State.
The Returning Officer, Prof. Umar Sani of Bayero University, Kano, said the APC candidate, Rabiu Shuaibu, polled 35,356 votes to defeat Lawal Garba Haruna of the African Peoples Movement (APM), who scored 268 votes.
Abubakar Yahaya Muhammad of the Labour Party recorded 98 votes.
Declaring the result, Sani said, “I hereby certify that I am the Returning Officer for the 2026 Dawakin Kudu Federal Constituency by-election held on 20th June 2026. The election was contested.
“The candidates received the following votes: Rabiu Shehu Aibu of APC scored 35,356 votes; Lawal Garba Haruna of APM scored 268 votes; and Abubakar Yahaya Muhammad of LP scored 98 votes.”
He added, “Rabiu Shehu Aibu of APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.”
