Bauchi State Lawmaker Is Dead

Lawmaker representing Sakwa Constituency in the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Hon. Mohammad Wanzam, has passed away.

Naija News reports that Wanzam’s demise was announced on Sunday by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Y. Sulaiman, in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Mukhtar Garba Kobi.

According to the statement, Wanzam, who served as chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, died on Sunday morning.

Sulaiman described the late lawmaker as a committed public servant who served his constituency and the state to the best of his ability.

The Speaker prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive the late Hon. Wanzam’s shortcomings, accept his good deeds, and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.

He also stated that the funeral prayer for the deceased lawmaker would be held later on Sunday at the Gwallaga Juma’at Mosque in Bauchi by 11:00 a.m.

The statement added, “Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. With a heavy heart and total submission to the will of Almighty Allah, I announce the passing of a member of the Bauchi State House of Assembly representing Sakwa Constituency, Hon. Mohammad Wanzam.” 

In related development, a former Deputy Governor of Bauchi State, Audu Sule Katagum, has died at the age of 69.

Katagum, who served as deputy governor between 2018 and 2019 under former Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, died in the early hours of Saturday.

His death was announced by Shamsuddeen Lukman Abubakar, digital and creative media aide to the former governor.
