I Was Nervous, Forgive Me – Tems Speaks After Performing At Obama Centre Opening
Nigerian Grammy-winning singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has said she was nervous during her performance at the official dedication ceremony of the Obama Presidential Centre in Chicago, United States.
The singer made the revelation on 𝕏 after performing at the high-profile event on Wednesday, where she joined several international music stars in celebrating the opening of the new center.
Naija News reports that Tems later shared her thoughts on social media after mistakenly calling the daughters of former U.S. President Barack Obama by the wrong names while speaking on stage.
She admitted that nervousness affected her during the ceremony and apologized for the error.
She wrote: “Lord knows I was nervous! Please forgive me!!!”
The event took place at John Lewis Plaza on the 19-acre Obama Presidential Centre campus and marked the formal dedication of the $850 million facility ahead of its public opening on June 19.
Community activities are expected to continue through June 21.
Other performers included Jennifer Hudson, Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen, John Legend, Christina Aguilera, Common, Bono, The Edge, Marc Anthony and The Roots.
The Obama Presidential Centre celebrations began with the dedication ceremony on June 18 and will continue with a public opening and community events through June 21.
The centre also features a portrait created by Nigerian-born artist Njideka Akunyili Crosby.
