We Acted And Got Peanuts – Toyin Abraham Opens Up On Nollywood Struggles

Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham has shared her experience about how long it took before acting became rewarding for her financially.

In an interview with Nolly TV, the thespian said she joined the Nigerian film industry in 2001 but did not start earning good income until about eight years ago.

Naija News reports that the filmmaker explained that in her early years in Nollywood, actors were paid very little and often accepted roles just to survive and stay active in the industry.

According to her, the money was not enough at the time, but they kept working because of passion and the need to get by.

Toyin noted that things only changed for her years later when her career began to grow and she started getting better-paying roles and production opportunities.

She said: “I just started making money 8 years ago, and I’ve been in the film industry since 2001. Back then, we acted and got peanuts, but we did it just to survive.”

In other news, Nollywood actress, Shine Rosman, has opened up on the financial condition of many actors in the Nigerian movie industry, saying the public often believes actors are wealthier than they truly are.

Naija News reports that she spoke during a podcast interview hosted by fellow actor Baaj Adebule.

The To Kill A Monkey actress explained that many people wrongly assume every Nollywood star is financially comfortable because of their fame and public appearance.

According to her, the reality in the industry is different, as many actors still face financial difficulties despite being popular on television and social media.
