Nigeria, Africa Need Peaceful World Order – Olawepo-Hashim Hails US-Iran Peace Deal
The presidential candidate of the Accord Party and Co-Chairman of the Movement for Democratic Renewal, Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has welcomed the agreement between the United States (US) and Iran aimed at ending hostilities and restoring stability in the Middle East.
Naija News reports that Olawepo-Hashim spoke during a short visit to Dakar, Senegal, where he commended the governments and international partners whose diplomatic efforts helped create the conditions for dialogue and peaceful resolution of the conflict.
He said the agreement showed that diplomacy remained the most effective path to resolving complex international disputes, especially at a time of rising global tension and uncertainty.
“I welcome the agreement between the United States and Iran aimed at ending the conflict and restoring stability to the Middle East.”
“I commend President Donald Trump, the Governments of Iran, Qatar and Pakistan, alongside other international partners whose efforts helped create the conditions for peace,” he added.
Olawepo-Hashim, a global energy executive with longstanding involvement in international affairs, said the development was a reminder that dialogue and negotiation could still deliver results where confrontation had failed.
The Accord Party candidate, who received the Lord Max Berlof Prize for Global Affairs in 2009, said global leaders must continue to prioritise peace-building and constructive engagement in dealing with conflicts.
According to him, diplomacy has once again demonstrated its importance as a reliable tool for easing tensions and preventing wider instability.
He said the world could not afford prolonged conflict in strategic regions, especially given the interconnected nature of global economies, energy markets and trade routes.
Olawepo-Hashim noted that peace in the Middle East carries consequences beyond the region, affecting security, energy prices, investment flows, trade and economic growth across continents.
He said instability in the region often creates ripple effects that are felt by countries far beyond the immediate conflict zone.
“Stability in the Middle East is important not only for the region, but also for global security, energy markets, trade, and economic development,” he stated.
“The world’s economies are interconnected, and disruptions in one region often create consequences across continents.”
The Accord Party presidential candidate said the agreement should be supported by all nations committed to peaceful coexistence and economic stability.
Olawepo-Hashim stressed that Nigeria and other African countries have a significant stake in a stable and predictable international order.
He said a peaceful global environment creates better conditions for development, investment, trade and cooperation among nations.
According to him, Africa must continue to support initiatives that promote dialogue, mutual understanding and international cooperation.
“A peaceful international environment creates better opportunities for development. Nigeria and Africa must continue to support efforts that advance peace, cooperation, and stability among nations,” he said.
Olawepo-Hashim expressed optimism that the agreement would help reduce tension in the Middle East and strengthen global efforts toward peaceful coexistence.
He said the deal, if sustained, could contribute to economic stability, improved diplomatic relations and shared prosperity among nations.
He urged world leaders to build on the progress by maintaining open channels of communication and supporting measures that prevent a return to hostilities.
The former presidential candidate said lasting peace would require patience, trust-building and continued commitment from all parties involved in the process.
