World Cup 2026: Messi Fit For Argentina Vs Algeria Clash – Scaloni

Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni has confirmed that captain Lionel Messi is fully fit and available for his side’s opening FIFA World Cup 2026 match against Algeria after recovering from recent hamstring discomfort.

Speaking with Tribal Football, Scaloni said the Inter Miami forward is ready for action and remains on course to make history by appearing at a sixth FIFA World Cup.

The Argentina manager also delivered positive news on two other key players, revealing that goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez, who had been nursing a fractured finger, and striker Julián Álvarez, recovering from an ankle problem, will both be available for the tournament opener.

Amid the excitement surrounding Messi’s return, Scaloni insisted his team are approaching the fixture with composure and confidence.

“Calm because it’s just a game of football. We have the experience of the last World Cup; the first game is not fundamental. It’s important, but it doesn’t end with the first game,” he said.

“We are good; we are calm. We are facing a good team with great players. But we are calm; we are arriving at a good moment. Everyone wants to see Messi on the field, playing. He excited everyone, not just Argentines.”

Scaloni also highlighted Messi’s enduring influence on the national team, describing the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner as a constant source of inspiration.

“From my part, it’ll always be like that. I don’t see anything negative. He’s been in different conditions and has always been here. He’s always been monumental for us, and now he will be even more. I see him well,” the coach said.
