Atiku Welcomes Appeal Court Ruling Against ADC Deregistration
The 2027 presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has expressed satisfaction with the decision of the Court of Appeal to stay the execution of the Federal High Court judgment seeking the deregistration of the party and four other parties.
Atiku submitted that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) initiating the court request for a stay of execution is of great significance.
Naija News recalls that the Appeal Court in Abuja on Tuesday ordered the suspension of the High Court order for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Action Peoples Party (APP), Action Alliance (AA), Accord Party (AP), and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) over their failure to meet the conditions for retaining their registration.
Reacting to the Appeal Court order, Atiku added that any attempt to undermine Nigeria’s hard-won democracy through judicial manipulation represents a grave danger.
The former Vice President of Nigeria added that the judiciary should uphold the rule of law and the constitution at all times.
“I welcome the Court of Appeal’s decision to stay the execution of the Federal High Court judgment seeking the deregistration of our great party, the ADC, and four other political parties. It is particularly significant that INEC itself initiated the application for the stay.
“The disturbing spectacle of judicial contradictions and politically charged rulings playing out in our courts has placed the judiciary under intense public scrutiny. As ADC National Chairman, Sen. David Mark, rightly observed, the judiciary itself is now on trial.
“Any attempt to undermine Nigeria’s hard-won democracy through judicial manipulation is a grave danger to the Republic. If our democracy suffers further injury, history will demand accountability from those entrusted with dispensing justice. The judiciary still has an opportunity to redeem itself by standing firmly on the side of the Constitution, the rule of law, and the Nigerian people,” Atiku wrote in a personally signed statement on his 𝕏 Account.
