2027: Accord Will Be On Ballot, Court Judgment Not Final – Nyameh Declares

The governorship candidate of the Accord Party in Taraba State, Professor Jerome Nyameh, has appealed to members and supporters of the party to remain calm following a judgment of the Federal High Court.

Nyameh said the ruling should not be interpreted as the end of the matter, stressing that it had no bearing on the party’s political future or its participation in future elections.

Naija News reported earlier that the Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and four other political parties.

The order was given on Monday by Justice Peter Lifu in his ruling on the suit filed by the National Forum of Former Legislators, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/2637/2026.

According to him, the affected parties have persistently failed to meet constitutional performance thresholds.

The other parties affected are the Action Peoples Party, Action Alliance, Accord Party and Zenith Labour Party.

The National Forum of Former Legislators had, in the suit, prayed the court to determine whether INEC has a constitutional obligation to remove political parties that fail to meet the electoral performance thresholds set out in Section 225A of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), as reinforced by the Electoral Act 2022 and INEC’s regulations.

The plaintiff argued that the five political parties listed as defendants in the matter had persistently failed to meet the constitutional benchmarks required to retain their registration.

However, in a statement issued to address concerns among party members, Nyameh urged supporters not to panic or lose confidence in the party.

He said the judgment was only the first stage in an ongoing legal process and assured members that the party would continue to pursue all available constitutional and legal options.

‘Accord Will Be On Ballot’

Nyameh, while reassuring supporters of the party’s continued relevance, said Accord would participate in the 2027 general elections.

“Don’t be discouraged by the Federal High Court judgment. ACCORD will be on the ballot in 2027,” he assured.

He explained that the Federal High Court remained a court of first instance and that the Nigerian judicial system provides room for further review of decisions through the appellate courts.

According to him, “The Federal High Court is just a trial court. There is the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court.”

Nyameh maintained that the legal issue was far from concluded, expressing confidence that justice would eventually be served as the matter progresses through the judicial process.

The Taraba Accord candidate said the party leadership would take necessary steps to protect the party’s interest and ensure that its supporters were not discouraged by what he described as a temporary setback.

He noted that the party remained a viable political platform with structures across the country and growing acceptance among Nigerians.

Nyameh said Accord’s political future remained intact, adding that preparations for future engagements, including the 2027 general elections, were ongoing.

He urged party members to remain focused and avoid actions that could undermine the unity and stability of the party.

The professor also called on supporters to remain law-abiding, united and committed to grassroots mobilisation despite the court ruling.

He said the party’s internal cohesion remained strong and that its leadership was committed to sustaining its presence in Nigeria’s democratic space.

Nyameh encouraged members to continue political mobilisation at the ward, local government and state levels, saying the party would not be distracted by legal or political challenges.

He added that the party would continue to position itself as a credible platform for Nigerians seeking alternative leadership.

Nyameh further referenced prominent figures within the party, including the governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, whom he described as one of the credible and influential political actors associated with the platform.

According to him, the presence of such political figures showed that Accord remained a party with national appeal and strong prospects ahead of future elections.

He reassured supporters that the leadership of the party remained committed to strategic planning, legal engagement and mobilisation ahead of the 2027 polls.

The Taraba governorship candidate urged members not to be discouraged, insisting that the party would remain active in the country’s political process.
