Elections Are Rigged Because Nigerians Want It That Way – Peter Obi

Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has said election manipulation continues in Nigeria because many citizens allow it to happen by failing to protect their votes at polling units.

Speaking during a recent visit to Washington, D.C., Obi said he would do everything within his power to help safeguard votes ahead of the 2027 general elections, Naija News reports.

However, the former Anambra governor maintained that the final responsibility rests with Nigerians, whom he urged to remain at polling centres and ensure that the votes cast are properly counted.

According to him, votes can only be protected when citizens actively monitor the electoral process instead of leaving immediately after casting their ballots.

He said: “Elections are rigged in Nigeria because Nigerians want it to be rigged. I will do whatever is possible to protect votes come 2027 election, but it is now left for Nigerians to decide if their votes will count.

“Because if you vote and stay in your polling unit and insist your votes must count, it will be counted. But some Nigerians would rather vote and go home, then hours later go to night vigil to start praying, because they think they are the only ones God created. The problem of Nigeria is leadership”.
