Osi Balogun of Ibadanland Is Dead

The Osi Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Olubunmi Isioye-Dada, has died.

A palace source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the death of the traditional chief to Daily Post on Friday.

According to the source, Oba Isioye-Dada died at his residence in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, after a brief illness.

The source added that a delegation of Omo Oye had already visited the late chief’s residence following news of his passing.

Naija News reports that until his death, Oba Isioye-Dada held the prestigious title of Osi Balogun of Ibadanland.

The title is one of the important positions in the Balogun line of the Ibadan traditional chieftaincy system.

Ibadanland operates a unique traditional succession structure, with chiefs rising through either the Otun line or the Balogun line until they become eligible for the Olubadan stool.

The death of Osi Balogun is therefore expected to affect the ranking of several chiefs and high chiefs within the Balogun line.

Following Oba Isioye-Dada’s death, a series of promotions is expected within the Ibadan chieftaincy hierarchy, subject to the approval of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja.

Among those expected to be affected by the succession process is an All Progressives Congress governorship aspirant, Senator Sharafadeen Ali.

Ali, who currently holds the position of Ekaarun Balogun of Ibadanland, is expected to move to the rank of Ekerin Balogun.

Similarly, Oba Akeem Mobolaji Adewoyin is expected to be elevated from Ekerin Balogun to the position of Asipa Balogun of Ibadanland.
