Drama As Senator Ningi Brings ‘Dangerous’ Spear Into Senate Chambers (Video)

The lawmaker representing Bauchi Central Senatorial District in the 10th National Assembly, Senator Abdul Ahmed Ningi, caused a stir on Thursday when he brought a spear into the Senate chambers.

Despite attempts for him to remove it from the chamber, the lawmaker refused to comply, stating that his colleagues don’t understand what it means to him.

“You people should leave it for me, you don’t know the importance of it and what it means,” Ningi said.

Naija News reports that after further appeals and deliberations on the matter, Ningi agreed to take the spear out but insisted that only he, and nobody, including the Sergeant at Arms, would take the spear out.

In his contribution to the development on the Senate floor, Senate President Godswill Akpabio appreciated Senator Ningi for his compliance and further urged him to remove ‘the one that also looks like a snake from his neck’ before returning to the Senate Chamber.

Akpabio noted that the spear is very dangerous.

Speaking further during the plenary, Ningi explained to his colleagues that his attire is ceremonial and represents his culture.

The lawmaker insisted that the items are not in any way dangerous to other legislators or designed to harm people.
