Benue Assembly Extends Suspension Of Two Lawmakers

The Benue State House of Assembly has extended the suspension of former Speaker Aondona Dajoh and former Majority Leader Saater Tiseer for another three months as legal disputes involving the two lawmakers continue.

Naija News reports that the decision was taken during Tuesday’s plenary session presided over by Speaker Berger Alfred.

The matter came before the House through a motion raised by Majority Leader Thomas Dugeri, who represents Kwande West State Constituency.

The motion received support from Deputy Chief Whip Simon Gabo, representing Mata State Constituency.

After deliberations, members approved the motion and agreed that the suspension of the two lawmakers should remain in place until the court cases they filed against the Assembly are concluded or withdrawn.

The lawmakers had earlier been suspended, and the latest resolution keeps the action in force for an additional three months in line with the Assembly’s position on the ongoing legal proceedings.

During the same sitting, lawmakers also considered the Benue State Sports Marketing, Gaming and Lotteries Bill, 2026.

The proposed legislation successfully passed its second reading on the floor of the House.

Following the debate on the bill, Speaker Alfred Emberga directed that it be forwarded to the Joint House Committees on Finance, Youth and Sports for further examination and legislative review before returning to the chamber for additional consideration.
