I Became An Actor By Accident – Nkem Owoh

Veteran Nollywood actor Nkem Owoh, also known as Osuofia, has shared that he never planned to become a film actor.

Speaking in a recent episode of the Selah Meditate podcast, he said he originally worked more as a scriptwriter behind the scenes and enjoyed staying off camera while creating comedy content.

Naija News reports that the thespian explained that people around him kept pushing him to try acting because of how funny he was during production work.

According to him, he first appeared on screen after a short comedy programme was created for him in the 1980s, and over time, viewers began to enjoy his performances, which led him fully into acting.

Owoh said, “Acting and my coming in front of the camera was an accident. I was a scriptwriter behind the scenes and people started telling me to start performing in front of the camera.

“I remember ATV created a 7-minute programme for me to do stand-up comedy in the 80s. They told me to come in front of the camera because I was making people laugh behind the camera. With much pressure, I came in front of the camera. And I saw that what I was doing people were buying it so that was how my acting career began.”

He also spoke about life as a public figure, saying that fame changed many parts of his daily living.

He noted that becoming well known reduced his privacy and limited his freedom to do certain normal activities without attention from the public.
