You Want Us To Suspend Our Jobs And Be Talking About Insecurity? – Actress Dayo Amusa Queries Critics
Nollywood actress Dayo Amusa has spoken against what she described as growing online bullying directed at people in the creative industry.
In a post shared on her 𝕏 page, the actress expressed sadness over the way actors and other entertainers are treated whenever they share their opinions or promote their work online.
Naija News reports that she said many people in the industry are often attacked and labelled insensitive for posting about their projects during difficult periods in the country.
Amusa stated that movie production involves huge financial commitments, including loans obtained at high interest rates.
According to her, it is unfair to expect filmmakers to stop their work and focus only on discussing issues such as insecurity and government policies on social media.
The actress also made it clear that she would not allow online trolls to dictate how she uses her platform.
She said she decided long ago not to build her brand around pleasing online crowds and added that negative comments from critics would not affect her.
She wrote: “I woke up today with a very heart…The bullying many of you subject our colleagues to in the creative industry is crazy…
“They freely can’t share their opinion, they can’t post their jobs without being called insensitive..
“We go to bank to take loans to shoot movies with high interest rate, but you want us to suspend our jobs and be posting videos of kidnapping and cursing the government daily while you’re in your own office tweeting and enjoying your environment..
“The day i decided to start using this app actively, I’ve made up my mind that many of you trolls don’t matter..I won’t pander to mobs as I didn’t build my brand on it..
“I have other strings of income, don’t come under my post to act silly, I’ll send you home…
“That said, May God bring succor to the family of the kids and teachers kidnapped in Oyo state..May they return home safely 🙏.”
