‘Political Rascality’ – Emeka Ike Threatens Legal Action Against Wike’s Aide Over INEC Data Leak
Actor Emeka Ike has said he is prepared to take action against Lere Olayinka, media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over the alleged exposure of his personal information from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal.
Naija News reports that Ike, who contested the House of Representatives seat for the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), made the declaration during an appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief.
The dispute followed a post by Olayinka on X, where he claimed that Ike was originally registered as a voter in Imo State before transferring his registration to the Federal Capital Territory.
“Emeka Ike was a registered voter in Imo State. He only transferred his INEC Registration to the FCT on May 15, 2026,” Olayinka wrote.
He also questioned the actor’s decision to contest in Abuja and attached screenshots that appeared to contain details from an INEC administrative page.
The images reportedly showed information including Ike’s application number, registration centre, Voter Identification Number, photograph and other personal details.
Reacting to the development, Ike described the alleged access to his information as shocking and unacceptable.
“It’s quite shocking, extreme, and it is the height of political rascality for a government officer to access a citizen’s information from the INEC cyber,” he said.
According to the actor, the incident raised concerns about privacy and the handling of citizens’ personal information.
“He is telling every Nigerian that whoever you are, I can pull your information from anywhere and I can do what I want, and that rascality needs to be stopped,” he added.
Ike said he was ready to challenge Olayinka over the alleged exposure of his personal details.
“Actions are ready, I’m ready to take him on. He has no right to exploit my privacy and insult Nigerians the way he did,” he said.
“If he has been doing it in the past, this should be the last time he does it.”
The actor also explained why he chose to contest the House of Representatives seat in the FCT instead of Imo State.
According to him, he initially planned to pursue political office in his home state before being persuaded by supporters in Abuja.
“People came to me and told me, ‘Sir, you need to do this now, we need you in Abuja,’” Ike said.
“I considered it, seeing the relevant issues they brought on board, and I said okay fine, let’s see how we can build Abuja.”
