Wike Speaks On Cows Roaming Abuja Streets
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has apologised for the continued presence of cows on the streets of Abuja.
Naija News reports that Wike said he takes responsibility for the situation. The minister spoke on Monday during his monthly media chat in Abuja.
Wike admitted that cattle were still roaming some streets in the nation’s capital despite efforts by the FCT Administration.
“I apologize that up till now there are cows still roaming the streets of Abuja, I take responsibility,” he said.
The minister said road projects being executed by the FCT Administration were not limited to the city centre.
According to him, projects are also being carried out in satellite towns, including roads, water projects and residences for public officers.
“These projects are not only concentrated in the city centres but also in the satellite town. From roads to water, to residences of public officers,” he said.
Wike added that communities were involved in selecting roads to be constructed.
“We don’t just stand and say let’s do these roads, the people appoint and nominate the roads that they want to be of use to them, and it helps in terms of reducing security and having access to their farm lands,” he said.
Wike also said he would commission projects alongside President Bola Tinubu to mark the President’s third year in office.
He maintained that ongoing road projects had helped improve access and reduce insecurity in parts of the FCT.
