Flamingos Crush Guinea 11-0 On Aggregate, Set Up Final Qualifier Against Benin
Nigeria’s U-17 women’s team, the Flamingos, have booked their place in the final round of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers after completing an emphatic 11-0 aggregate win over Guinea.
The Flamingos followed up their 5-0 first-leg win in Abidjan with an even more dominant display on home soil, thrashing Guinea 6-0 at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne on Sunday.
There was no sign of complacency from the Flamingos despite carrying a healthy advantage into the return fixture. They seized control from the opening stages and never looked back.
Oluwakemi Adegbuyi opened the scoring in the ninth minute, finishing off a pinpoint cross from Queen Joseph. The early goal set the tone for another one-sided match.
Captain Harmony Chidi doubled Nigeria’s lead with a stunning strike from distance before Joseph capped off an impressive start by adding the third goal in the 23rd minute.
Adegbuyi struck again in the 32nd minute, rising highest to head home and extend the lead. Two minutes later, Chidi completed her brace after a slick team move as the Flamingos went into the break with a commanding five-goal cushion.
The hosts maintained their intensity after the restart, continuing to push forward in search of more goals. Substitute Precious Oscar rounded off the scoring in the 70th minute to seal a convincing 6-0 victory on the day.
The result ensured the Flamingos progressed with an overwhelming 11-0 aggregate score and moved one step closer to securing a place at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
Nigeria will now face the Benin Republic in the third and final qualifying round.
Following the impressive performance, the proprietor of Remo Stars and Beyond Limits Football Club, Hon. Kunle Soname, fulfilled his promise to reward the players. Soname had pledged ₦750,000 for every goal scored and subsequently paid the team ₦4.5 million after their six-goal haul against Guinea.
