I Divorced My Wife – Bashir El-Rufai Opens Up On Failed Marriage
Bashir El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has opened up on the end of his marriage to Halima Kazaure, after six years.
Naija News reports that Bashir and Halima, the daughter of former Labour and Productivity Minister, Ibrahim Kazaure, got married in October 2020.
The ceremony attracted several notable figures, including former Senate Presidents Ahmad Lawan and Bukola Saraki, as well as the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.
He announced his separation from Halima on his 𝕏 account on Friday, after engaging with followers in a Q&A session following his public admiration for another woman during Eid al-Kabir.
He had earlier reposted a picture of @oheems on 𝕏 with the caption: “I want a baby girl by September. Keep doing slay queen here.”
The post sparked reactions from users who reminded him that he was still married.
In response, Bashir disclosed that his marriage to Halima had already ended in divorce. He also stated that the woman featured in the post is now his fiancée.
While discussing the failed marriage, Bashir said he decided to end the union because he was unwilling to continue dealing with issues he linked to generational differences.
He also spoke positively about his current relationship, describing his experience with his fiancée’s cultural background as different from his previous marriage.
The former governor’s son further shared details about his approach to relationships.
According to him, he has never been the one to initiate romantic pursuits or ask a woman to marry him. He claimed that women usually make the first move and that his first marriage followed the same pattern.
Bashir said Halima was the one who approached him and eventually proposed marriage before they got married in 2020. He added that he has never relied on money or material gifts to attract women and often discovers much later that someone is interested in him.
He wrote: “I’m not married yet. I am divorced. Yes, she’s from Bida, and yes, I divorced my first wife (I have no time for Gen Z wahala).
“The difference is clear, I had no clue Nupe women treat their husbands like emperors. Loving it.
”I don’t toast, babes. Never have. It’s not even about bragging rights or pride. Neither have I ever used money to buy companionship. Sometimes it’s even years later that I discover one babe or another likes me.
”I can’t tell. They make the first move. I also never asked a girl to marry me. Even in my 1st, she was the one who proposed. Not to impress anyone, but that’s the fact.”
