APC Chairman Speaks On Irregular Counting During Party’s Presidential Primaries

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has clarified the controversy surrounding the counting of votes during the party’s presidential primary election.

Naija News reports that Yilwatda spoke after several videos surfaced online showing what appeared to be dramatic vote-counting by some collation officers during the exercise.

One of the videos reportedly showed a collation officer in Abia State jumping figures during counting after the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, told him to “begin your count.”

Reacting to the controversy, on Monday, in an interview on Arise News, the APC chairman said the party relied on data from the ward-level exercise.

According to him, the figures in the viral video did not reflect the party’s official data for Abia State.

“The data we have for Abia is quite different. Because the election took place at the ward level, and there is no ward in Abia State, no singular ward in Abia has 7000 voters,” Yilwatda said.

The APC chairman dismissed the video as possible drama or mimicry, insisting that it did not affect the party’s official figures.

Yilwatda stated, “That’s the data we have. If you know, people can mimic counting at any point; people can do their drama, but I work with data.

“If there was a mimic counting or a drama that took place, it didn’t affect the data of total votes.

“Because you know there are people who make dramas and jokes at centers, but it has nothing to do with the overall figures.”
