Tinubu Makes Fresh Appointment

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Major General Adeyinka A. Fadewa (retd.) as Special Adviser on Homeland Security.

The appointment, according to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, via a statement issued on Monday by the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, reflects the Tinubu administration’s commitment to strengthening internal security coordination, improving intelligence-led operations and deepening collaboration among security agencies in response to emerging threats across the country.

The Presidency described Fadewa as a highly decorated retired general with over three decades of military and intelligence experience.

The circular stated that his service covered national security strategy, intelligence fusion, counter-terrorism operations and international security diplomacy.

It read, “Major General Fadewa (Rtd) is a highly decorated retired General with over three decades of distinguished military and intelligence service spanning national security strategy, intelligence fusion, counter-terrorism operations, and international security diplomacy.”

The statement added that Fadewa’s career showed what it described as a rare combination of operational excellence, strategic foresight and institutional leadership.

It further stated, “His career reflects a rare blend of operational excellence, strategic foresight, and institutional leadership in safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity and national interests.”

The Presidency also highlighted Fadewa’s role at the Office of the National Security Adviser, where he served as Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser from 2015 to 2021.

It said he played a major role in shaping Nigeria’s modern intelligence coordination framework during the period.

According to the circular, Fadewa spearheaded the establishment of the Intelligence Fusion Centre at ONSA.

The centre was designed as a multi-agency intelligence platform involving the Defence Intelligence Agency, National Intelligence Agency, Department of State Services, Nigeria Police Force and the Armed Forces.

The statement said the platform helped to improve national threat assessment and strategic response coordination.

The circular added that after retiring from active military service, Fadewa served as Senior Research Fellow at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Abuja.

In that role, he continued to contribute to discussions on policing, civil-security cooperation and national security reform.

It also noted that his scholarly work included a monograph titled Policing and National Security in Nigeria, which focused on practical frameworks for strengthening civil-security collaboration.

President Tinubu expressed confidence that the appointment would enhance ongoing efforts to build a safer Nigeria through better coordination of homeland security initiatives, intelligence integration and proactive risk management.

Tinubu urged the retired general to bring his experience and strategic insight to bear in the new role.

The circular stated, “President Tinubu expressed confidence that the appointment of Major General Fadewa (Rtd) will further enhance the administration’s efforts toward achieving a safer and more secure Nigeria through improved coordination of homeland security initiatives, intelligence integration, and proactive risk management.”

It added that the President urged him to deploy his wealth of experience, professionalism and strategic insight in advancing national security objectives and supporting the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
