The Ogun State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Oludare Ogunjobi, confirmed the incident in a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, Odunsi Afolabi.
Ogunjobi said officials of the FRSC from the Itori Unit Command were immediately deployed to the scene after receiving information about the crash.
The sector commander said all 11 occupants of the vehicle died in the accident.

He said, “All 11 people on board, 10 adult males and one adult female, lost their lives in the crash.”

He added, “The incident: A gold Toyota with registration GGE722KJ somersaulted and fell off the bridge, trapping the occupants inside as the doors locked upon impact.”
Ogunjobi disclosed that FRSC personnel, with support from members of the local community, had to dismantle parts of the vehicle before the bodies could be recovered.
He said the remains of the victims were later deposited at the State Specialist Hospital morgue in Ifo.
The sector commander described the incident as tragic and expressed condolences to the families of the deceased.
The FRSC attributed the cause of the accident to driving under the influence and overloading.
Ogunjobi warned motorists against reckless driving, especially at night, saying the Abeokuta-Lagos route required extra caution due to the risks associated with speeding, fatigue and poor visibility.
He advised motorists and travellers using the route to obey traffic rules and avoid actions that could endanger their lives and those of other road users.
The FRSC commander also urged drivers to avoid driving under the influence of alcohol or other substances, stressing that safety must remain a priority on the highways.
