Fubara Focused On Governance – Rivers Govt Replies Wike
The Rivers State Government has said Governor Siminalayi Fubara remains focused on governance and infrastructural development across the state.
The government stated this in response to fresh criticism from the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who accused the governor of placing second-term politics above governance and the passage of the 2026 budget.
Wike, during a media chat at his residence in Abuja on Wednesday, also accused Fubara of reneging on an agreement he allegedly signed not to seek re-election following President Bola Tinubu’s intervention in the political crisis in the state.
Reacting, the Chief Press Secretary to the Rivers State governor, Onwuka Nzeshi, dismissed the allegations as false.
Nzeshi spoke on a programme on Nigeria Info 92.3 FM in Port Harcourt, monitored by Punch on Friday.
He insisted that Fubara had continued to execute and inspect critical infrastructure projects across the state.
He said, “It is not correct to say that His Excellency, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has been more focused on politics than governance.
“If anybody says that, it means that person is not on the ground. His Excellency, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has been going around every part of the state.
“So it will be wrong for anybody to say the governor has been busy plotting 2027 instead of doing his job.”
Nzeshi also denied claims that the governor had abandoned projects in the state.
He said Fubara inherited 12 major road projects from the previous administration, adding that all of them had reached advanced stages of completion.
According to him, phase one of the Trans-Kalabari Road and the Port Harcourt Ring Road projects are also at advanced stages.
The governor’s spokesman advised residents to disregard what he described as attempts to discredit Fubara.
Nzeshi said, “For someone who inherited 12 major road projects from his predecessor, nine of those projects are now above 70 per cent completion.
“Just last week, at two project sites, the Creek Road market and the Commissioner Quarters, he has been doing his job, the job of governance for which he was elected to do.
“He has shown commitment. He has shown persistence in terms of following up on the projects he met on the ground. He is not abandoning projects.”
