‘No Candidate Has Been Annouced’ – CPS Speaks On Makinde’s Preferred Successor

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has not picked any preferred candidate ahead of the 2027 governorship election, his media aide has said.

The Chief Press Secretary to the governor and Special Adviser on Media, Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, stated this on Thursday while reacting to reports that Makinde had settled for a successor.

Rumours had surfaced on Wednesday night that the governor had named former Commissioner for Finance, Bimbo Adekanmbi, as his preferred candidate for the next governorship election.

Adekanmbi served as commissioner during the administration of the late former governor, Abiola Ajimobi.

Olanrewaju, in a telephone conversation with Daily Post, denied the reported endorsement. He said Makinde and his political associates were still consulting on who the candidate would be.

Olanrewaju said, “No, they are still consulting. They are still consulting on who the candidate would be. They are yet to announce.

“I said that they are still making consultations. No announcement has been made. No candidate has been announced.”

Reports had claimed that Makinde and some of his loyalists within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may adopt the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as their political platform ahead of the next election cycle.

Sources cited in the reports also claimed that discussions around Adekanmbi’s possible emergence gained momentum on Wednesday after consultations with party leaders and political stakeholders across the state.

However, the governor’s aide maintained that no preferred candidate had been announced as of Thursday.
