Kindly Take It Easy – Morayo Afolabi Reacts To Backlash Over Interview With Ireti Doyle
Media personality Morayo Afolabi-Brown has reacted to criticism that followed her recent interview with actress Ireti Doyle.
Naija News reports that she explained how the session was conducted and why viewers may have misunderstood her approach.
The reaction comes after the interview sparked debate online, with some Nigerians questioning her style and intentions during the conversation.
Afolabi-Brown said the interview was planned in advance and that her guest was aware of the questions before appearing on the show.
She explained that there was no attempt to catch the actress off guard or create tension during the discussion.
She noted that her programme is designed to create a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere, different from many television shows that often focus on arguments, criticism, and heated exchanges.
According to her, the goal of her platform is to bring out positive moments and allow guests to express themselves without pressure.
Afolabi-Brown also spoke about the public reaction, saying many Nigerians tend to expect negative outcomes from interviews because of what they have seen over time.
She linked this mindset to years of exposure to harsh leadership and a social environment where people are used to conflict and distrust.
She added that this experience has made many viewers suspicious of media platforms, with some assuming that presenters are trying to trap their guests.
She said her show is built on a different idea, one that promotes happiness, laughter, and ease.
She said: “Nigerians! You people are always battle-ready. My guest got her questions a day before her interview. I wasn’t trying to spring a fast one on her. My show brings out the best in people, not otherwise. We are so used to being bashed on TV that we believe every TV presenter is trying to set a trap. It’s all joy here.
“We’ve grown almost immune to joy and happiness. We get a dose of that on Sunday at church, and by Monday, we are back to our grumpy selves. Kindly take it easy, oo. We are all in this terrible heat together.”
