Video: El-Rufai Arrives Kaduna Court For Money Laundering Trial
Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, arrived at the Federal High Court in Kaduna on Tuesday morning for his alleged money laundering trial.
Naija News reports that the arraignment followed an earlier announcement by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) that the former governor would be docked before the court on March 24, 2026.
Multiple Charges Filed
The charges, filed under suit number FHC/KD/73/2026, border on alleged corruption-related offences.
According to details of the charge, El-Rufai is facing counts ranging from conversion and possession of public property to money laundering.
Other allegations include abuse of office, fraud, intent to commit fraud, and conferring undue advantage.
Naija News reported earlier that security presence was significantly heightened around the court premises ahead of the proceedings.
Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Police Force, Mobile Police Force, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps were deployed to strategic locations.
The court, located within the old Nigerian Defence Academy area, witnessed heavy security checks as early as 7 a.m.
The increased security also affected vehicular movement in the area.
Motorists were restricted to a single lane from the Ungwan Sarki axis through Kawo, leading to early morning traffic congestion and delays.
The anti-corruption agency had earlier confirmed that the arraignment would take place before the Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna.
The trial is expected to commence with the formal reading of charges and the defendant’s plea, marking the beginning of what could be a closely watched legal battle involving the former governor.
