IED Explosion Injures Soldier, NSCDC Operative In Imo

A soldier and a personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have been injured following an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion in Imo State.

Naija News reports that the incident occurred in Orsu Local Government Area during a joint security operation.

Security sources told Zagagola Makama the blast happened at about 8:35 a.m. on March 18 while troops of the 34 Artillery Brigade were conducting operations in the Orsu axis.

The operatives were reportedly combing suspected criminal hideouts when the explosion occurred.

According to the sources, the team was operating around areas believed to be linked to the Indigenous People of Biafra and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network.

During the operation, the personnel allegedly stepped on a concealed pressure-activated IED, which detonated instantly.

The explosion left both operatives injured.

They were immediately given first aid before being evacuated to a medical facility for further treatment.

Security sources said clearance operations are ongoing in the area as forces intensify efforts to dismantle criminal hideouts and restore normalcy.
