LaLiga Reveals Impact Of Cristiano Ronaldo’s Investment In Almería

LaLiga president Javier Tebas has praised Cristiano Ronaldo for his investment in UD Almería, insisting the move is already transforming the club’s commercial outlook.

Naija News reports that Ronaldo secured a 25 per cent stake in the Segunda División side last month through CR7 Sports Investments, signalling his intent to step further into football ownership while still playing professionally.

The early signs suggest the decision is paying off. Since the deal was finalised, Almería have experienced a sharp rise in their digital presence. The club’s social media following has surged, pushing them into the top five most-followed teams in Spain, a remarkable leap for a side outside the top flight.

“Almería are now the fifth Spanish club on social media since Cristiano Ronaldo decided to invest in their project,” Tebas said.

“This is very important to get sponsors and improve the project for long term. Cristiano into the Almería project means ambition for the future.”

Tebas, speaking while presenting LaLiga’s 2024-25 Economic and Financial Report, described Ronaldo’s involvement as a “strategic asset” and pointed to a wider shift in how clubs build value in modern football.

According to Tebas, Almería’s following has grown by around 25 per cent since Ronaldo’s arrival. He stressed that audience size alone is not enough, but when paired with strong engagement, it becomes a powerful tool in attracting sponsors.

“If that translates into solid engagement it increases value when courting sponsors,” he said.

Ronaldo’s global standing, built during trophy-laden spells with Real Madrid, Juventus and Manchester United, continues to carry weight. His presence as an investor offers Almería access to wider markets and commercial partners, accelerating a process that would typically take years.

While progress off the pitch is evident, the sporting challenge remains. Under head coach Rubi, Almería sit third in the table, level on points with Deportivo La Coruña, as they push for automatic promotion.
