FRSC Recovers ₦3.7 Million, Valuables From Fatal Accident In Kaduna

Operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps attached to the Zaria Unit Command in Kaduna State have recovered and returned a total of ₦3,727,500 in cash, along with valuables estimated at about ₦500,000 from the scene of a fatal road accident.

Naija News reports that the recovery followed a crash that occurred on Sunday, March 15, 2026, along the Zaria–Funtua Highway near Zaria Academy.

According to the corps, the accident involved a Toyota Corolla and a Peugeot 806 vehicle conveying nine passengers.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Corps Public Education Officer, Felicia Kalu, confirmed that one of the passengers died at the scene of the crash, while eight others sustained injuries of varying degrees.

She explained that rescue teams from the FRSC responded promptly after receiving a distress call from the accident location.

“Upon receiving the distress call, FRSC rescue teams responded swiftly, providing immediate first aid before evacuating the injured victims to the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Shika, for urgent medical attention,” the statement read.

The injured victims were taken to Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Shika, for treatment.

Kalu further revealed that during the rescue and post-crash clearance operations, FRSC personnel discovered a large sum of money and other valuable items scattered across the accident scene.

The statement noted that the officers acted with professionalism by carefully securing the items.

“Demonstrating exceptional discipline and moral courage, the officers carefully secured the ₦3,727,500 and safeguarded all recovered valuables, ensuring they were protected until they could be properly returned to their rightful owners,” the statement added.

The recovered cash and valuables were formally handed over to the victims on Monday.

The Zaria Unit Commander, Nasiru Falgore, a Chief Route Commander, supervised the handover in the presence of relatives of the victims and other witnesses.

Reacting to the development, the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, commended the Zaria Unit Command officers for their honesty and professionalism.

He described their actions as a reflection of the corps’ core values of integrity, accountability and dedication to public service.

According to him, the conduct of the officers demonstrates that ethical behaviour remains central to the operations of the FRSC.

Beneficiaries of the recovered money and valuables expressed relief and appreciation to the officers for their conduct.

They noted that the FRSC personnel not only responded quickly to rescue the injured but also safeguarded their money at a critical moment.
