Canadian Prime Minister, Mark Carney Calls For Andrew Mountbatten Windsor Removal From Royal Succession

Canadian Prime Minister, Mark Carney, has called for Andrew Mountbatten Windsor to be removed from the royal line of succession, describing his actions as “deplorable.”Carney told reporters in Tokyo that the actions which led to Andrew being stripped of his royal titles “necessitate” his removal from the line of succession.

Naija News reported that King Charles III stripped Andrew of his prince status in October over his close links with late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. However, the former Prince Andrew, King Charles’s younger brother, remains eighth in line to become monarch.

King Charles III serves as head of state in Canada, which is a member of the Commonwealth of former colonies.

Carney, a former governor of the Bank of England, said that even though Mountbatten Windsor ranks “well down” the line of succession, the “point of principle stands.”

Carney said a process exists to remove someone from the line of succession, and authorities should follow it.

Under the current royal succession, Charles’s son, Prince William, is heir to the throne. His three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, follow next in line.

Carney’s statement adds international political pressure on the British royal family to take further action against Andrew, whose association with Epstein has damaged the monarchy’s reputation.

The call from Canada’s leader highlights growing discomfort among Commonwealth nations about Andrew’s continued position in the succession despite losing his royal titles and duties.
