Obasanjo @89: Saraki Hails Ex-president, Calls Him ‘Living Manuscript Of Nigeria’s History’

Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has congratulated former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, on his 89th birthday, describing the elder statesman as a “living manuscript of the Nigerian story.”

Saraki, in a message shared on his 𝕏 account on Thursday, praised Obasanjo’s enduring influence in Nigeria’s political and national development, noting that his life reflects the country’s historical journey.

In his birthday tribute, the former Senate President said the life and legacy of Obasanjo remain deeply intertwined with Nigeria’s history.

“History is often written in the past tense, but the life of our dear former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, remains a living manuscript of the Nigerian story, still defying the odds and still demanding our attention,” Saraki wrote.

He also prayed for the continued strength and wisdom of the former military Head of State and civilian President, noting that his voice remains important in times of national challenges.

“And so, Baba, as you mark another year, we celebrate not just the length of your years but the relentless relevance of your voice,” Saraki added.

“In times of national uncertainty, may your wisdom remain a trusted compass, and may your legendary wit remain as sharp as ever.

“Happy 89th Birthday, Your Excellency. May God grant you continued strength, sound health, and peace in the years ahead.”

Naija News reports that Saraki’s message follows after President Bola Tinubu also felicitated Obasanjo on the occasion of his 89th birthday, describing him as an elder statesman whose contributions to Nigeria remain significant.

Tinubu acknowledged the former president’s lasting impact on the country’s development, highlighting his interventions in national discourse through books, public commentary, and policy advocacy.

The President commended Obasanjo’s “towering influence” and praised “the zeal and wisdom he has brought into Nigeria’s development process through his books and regular interventions, revealing a depth of patriotism to nation-building.”

Speaking about his health and longevity, Obasanjo reportedly expressed gratitude to God for keeping him alive and in good health at the age of 89.

The former president dismissed critics who wished him dead, insisting that he would remain active for as long as God desires.

“God has assured me He has more for me to do on earth, and He has given me the wherewithal to do it. I dey kampe as usual,” he was quoted as saying.
