Four Die In Katsina Ramadan Stampede
At least four people have lost their lives following a stampede during the sharing of Ramadan alms in Katsina State.
Naija News reports that the incident happened at Kofar-Guga quarters in Katsina on the night of February 26, 2026. The police said the tragedy occurred around 9 p.m. after a large crowd gathered at the home of a philanthropist who was distributing the annual Ramadan charity.
In a statement released on Sunday in Katsina, the spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Aliyu Abubakar, confirmed that the command received a distress call at the Central Police Station about the situation. According to him, the crowd became uncontrollable, leading to a stampede that left several people injured.
Police officers were quickly sent to the scene after the report was received. The injured victims were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Sadly, four of them later died from the injuries they sustained during the rush.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Bello Shehu, expressed sympathy to the families of those who died and wished those receiving treatment a quick recovery. He also ordered a full investigation into the incident and called for steps to stop such tragedies from happening again.
The command advised individuals and groups planning to share alms or hold similar public charity events to inform the police ahead of time. It said proper notice would allow security personnel to provide adequate coverage and maintain order, so that lives and property are protected during large gatherings.
