Kayode Egbetokun Set To Hand Over To Tunji Disu
Former Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, is set to formally hand over the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force to the Acting IGP, Tunji Disu.
The ceremony, initially scheduled for 2 p.m. at the IGP Conference Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja, had yet to commence as of the time of filing this report.
Naija News understands that Egbetokun resigned from office on Tuesday, citing family reasons.
His resignation was immediately accepted by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who subsequently appointed Disu, an Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex, Alagbon, Lagos, as Acting IGP.
With the development, eight senior Deputy Inspectors-General of Police who are members of the Force Management Team are expected to proceed on compulsory retirement in line with tradition.
Meanwhile, the newly appointed Acting IGP arrived at the Presidential Villa on Wednesday ahead of his decoration with the new rank.
Disu arrived at about 2:50 p.m., accompanied by members of his family, for the decoration ceremony by the President.
Until his appointment on Tuesday, Disu served as Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex, Alagbon, Lagos.
