FG Withdraws Alleged Forgery Suit Against Ozekhome
The federal government has withdrawn the forgery suit filed against senior lawyer, Mike Ozekhome (SAN).
The decision of the government was disclosed in court on Tuesday by the counsel to the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), who is also the Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation (DPPF), Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN).
Naija News recalls that the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) had initially filed a three-count charge of alleged forgery against Ozekhome on January 16, 2026.
However, the Attorney-General of the Federation later took over the case on January 26, assuring that the case would be prosecuted with the highest standard of efficiency, diligence and due process.
However, during Tuesday’s proceedings scheduled for Ozekhome’s arraignment, Oyedepo moved an application to withdraw the case.
He explained that the office of the Attorney-General required time to review and consolidate issues arising from multiple investigating agencies in order to strengthen the prosecution.
According to him, the AGF was guided by public interest to instill confidence, fairness, and competence in the criminal justice system.
Oyedepo’s application was not opposed by the defence legal team led by Paul Erokoro (SAN).
Following the submission, Justice Peter Kekemeke of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama, granted the application and struck out the case.
Recall that Ozekhome was accused of presenting a falsified Nigerian passport and other documents to support his claim to a property at 79 Randall Avenue, London NW2 7SX.
The alleged offences reportedly occurred in August 2021 in Abuja’s Maitama district, within the jurisdiction of the FCT High Court.
The three counts of the charge relate to giving false information, using forged documents, and attempting to mislead a public authority.
