Abia APC Reschedules Ward, LG Congresses After Resolving Crisis
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has fixed fresh dates for its Ward and Local Government congresses following the suspension of the exercise last week over internal disagreements.
In a statement issued by the Abia APC caucus, the party announced that the rescheduled Ward Congress will now hold on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, across the state.
The Local Government Congress is slated for Thursday, February 26, 2026.
The party explained that the earlier suspension of the congresses was aimed at resolving internal friction within the state chapter.
According to the statement, the move has yielded positive results, with unity now restored among stakeholders.
The caucus noted that the decision to postpone the exercise was taken in good faith to ensure a rancour-free process.
It stated that harmony had been achieved, clearing the way for the congresses to proceed as planned this week.
State Congress Holds March 3
The party further confirmed that the State Congress will take place as earlier scheduled on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
Party leaders expressed optimism that the forthcoming congresses would consolidate unity and strengthen the party’s structure across wards and local government areas in Abia.
Naija News reports that the development comes amid persistent speculations that the Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, may be considering a move to the APC ahead of the 2027 governorship election to seek a second term.
However, the governor’s media aides, Ferdinand Ekeoma and Dodoh Okafor, have dismissed the reports, insisting that there is no truth to the rumoured defection.
