2027: Ex-CBN Deputy Gov Declares Interest In Ogun Governorship

Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Tunde Lemo, on Wednesday confirmed his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State.

Naija News reports that Lemo made the disclosure while speaking with journalists during the All Progressives Congress (APC) ward congress held at Ward 12, Ita-Agemo, Igbein, Abeokuta.

Responding to questions on speculation surrounding his governorship ambition, he said, “Yes, of course, I have my eyes on 2027 just like everyone else, but everything is in the hands of God.”

The former apex bank chief commended members of the APC for the peaceful conduct of the exercise, describing the atmosphere as calm and orderly.

He attributed the development to the Renewed Hope Agenda of Bola Tinubu and the administration of Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, over the past six years.

According to Lemo, the ward congress was organised to consolidate unity and harmony within the party structure.

I am not here to canvass personal position, but my presence here today is to underscore the fact that APC is an organic party. You can see the crowd, and we are members of one family,” he said.

You have not seen anybody fighting. We are very strong and very vibrant, and people are happy because of the transformative agenda of President Bola Tinubu.”

Lemo described the exercise as a critical step in strengthening party leadership and grassroots mobilisation.

At the same time, we are building the base, because today we are having the ward congresses, and from there, of course, we move up to the local, state and National Congress,” he stated.

“So I’m very, very excited that we have very loyal party members who have trooped out in their large numbers to ensure the success of this very important democratic exercise.”

While affirming his interest in the 2027 race, Lemo emphasised that his focus remains on governance and service to the people.

“You all know who I am, and you know what I’ve been trying to do. But by the special grace of God, it is about governance,” he said.

“It’s about raising the bar and ensuring the best for our people, and that’s what we’re doing, and by the special grace of God, we will get there.”
