Suspected Terrorists Attack Kwara LG Headquarters

Suspected terrorists on Sunday launched a fresh attack on Share, the headquarters of Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, sparking intense gunfire in the community.

Sources told SaharaReporters that the heavily armed assailants stormed the town while local forest guards and Nigerian military personnel engaged them in a fierce confrontation to prevent the takeover of the area.

“The situation is very serious at the moment. Bandits are attacking Share town and there is heavy exchange of gunfire. Forest guards and soldiers are fighting hard to repel them,” a resident said.

The attack on Share came hours after terrorists reportedly struck Kakafu community in Patigi Local Government Area of the state, abducting four residents in the early hours of Sunday.

Local sources said the attackers invaded the community, firing sporadically before whisking away the victims to an unknown destination.

A source familiar with the incident said the abduction occurred barely 24 hours after another violent encounter along the Gamji Road checkpoint in Gbugbu.

According to the source, armed bandits ambushed vigilantes and security operatives stationed at the checkpoint on Saturday.

“The bandits attacked the vigilantes and community guards at the checkpoint along Gamji Road, leaving at least one army officer injured after sustaining a gunshot wound to the leg. A vigilante officer was also reportedly hit, suffering a serious injury to the forehead,” the source said.

The injured security personnel were reportedly taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

Residents lamented that Kwara North and Kwara South senatorial districts have continued to experience repeated attacks, kidnappings and ambushes in recent months.
