Gunmen Storm Osun Community, Abduct Two
Gunmen have abducted two residents in Ora-Igbomina, an Osun State community bordering Kwara State.
According to Punch, the assailants stormed a private residence along Aran-Orin Road, Papa area of the town on Sunday night.
The incident occurred during a brief lull in police patrol activity due to heavy rainfall, a development the Osun State Police Command has acknowledged.
Residents said the attackers struck swiftly, firing gunshots to scare people away before dragging their victims into nearby bush paths.
A resident, identified simply as Mulikat, recounted the night’s events.
She said, “We heard gunshots around 11:30pm. The abductors went into a house along Aran Orin road and picked up the two men. Some men ran after the perpetrators but they could not follow them into the bush. The abductors are suspected bandits.”
According to residents, the gunmen appeared familiar with the terrain, exploiting the darkness and bush paths that link Osun and Kwara communities to escape unhindered.
The proximity of the town to the state boundary has repeatedly raised concerns among locals, who fear that criminals use the area as an easy transit route.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Osun State Command, Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed that security operatives had immediately commenced search and rescue efforts once the abduction was reported.
He said, “The incident occurred at around 11:45 p.m on Sunday. Our men who went for patrol but went back to their base when the rain started to fall. It was during that period that those people perpetrated that evil act.
“Tayese Adeyeye and Sunday Adewumi were abducted. The search and rescue teams moved in immediately after the report got to us. They have been combing the area.”
Police sources said patrols had since been reinforced in the area, with security operatives extending their sweep into surrounding bushes and boundary routes believed to be commonly used by kidnappers.
