Dapo Abiodun Declares Public Holiday In Ogun State

Ogun State residents will observe a public holiday on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, as the state celebrates its 50th anniversary.

Governor Dapo Abiodun approved the holiday to allow citizens to take part in the Golden Jubilee events.

The announcement was made by the Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, who explained that the celebrations will recognize five decades of the state’s political history, steady growth, and contributions to Nigeria’s development.

The government urged people to join the festivities peacefully and to reflect on the state’s achievements while looking forward to further progress.

The Golden Jubilee programme includes activities designed to honour the past, celebrate current successes, and plan for a prosperous future for Ogun State.

Ogun State was created on February 3, 1976, and the anniversary celebrations provide an opportunity for residents to actively participate and celebrate the milestone together.

Naija News reports the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in Ogun State has confirmed a fresh attack on its personnel by suspected smugglers along a bush path in Alapoti, Ado/Odo-Ota Local Government Area.

The incident occurred during a routine anti-smuggling patrol on Saturday evening.

Officers intercepted a group transporting foreign parboiled rice on motorcycles and seized 46 bags of 50 kilograms each.

As the patrol team tried to leave with the confiscated goods, they were ambushed by a mob armed with Dane guns, stones, bottles, and other weapons.
