Two Killed, Others Injured As Bandits Attack Katsina Communities

Suspected bandits in the early hours of Saturday attacked Gidan Alhaji Barau and Gidan Hazo villages in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State, killing two persons and injuring two others.

The attack, which occurred around 1:10 a.m., prompted a swift response from security operatives following a distress call to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Malumfashi.

“The DPO swiftly mobilised a joint security team to the area, blocked exit routes and engaged the hoodlums in an exchange of gunfire,” a security source told Zagazola Makama.

After the confrontation, four residents were found with gunshot wounds. They were identified as Lawal Tanimu (30), Umaima Sale (25), Sani Umar (30), and Harisu Salisu (29), all from Gidan Alhaji Barau.

The injured victims were taken to the General Hospital in Malumfashi for treatment.

The police said a medical doctor confirmed the deaths of Tanimu and Sale upon arrival at the hospital, while the other two victims are currently receiving treatment.

Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the attackers, the police confirmed, adding that further security measures have been reinforced in the affected areas.

The Katsina State Police Command reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property and urged residents to support security efforts by providing timely and credible information.
