1. President Tinubu Cancels $1.42 Billion, ₦5.57 Trillion NNPCL Debt To Federation Account
President Bola Tinubu has written off a large portion of the debts owed by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) to the Federation Account.
This was made known in a recent report by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).
Naija News reports that according to the report, President Tinubu wiped off about $1.42 billion and ₦5.57 trillion NNPCL debts, respectively.
This was made public in documents released by the NUPRC titled “Report of October 2025 Revenue Collection Presented at the Federation Account Allocation Committee Meeting Held on 18th November 2025”.
Based on the President’s approval, debts owed by the NNPCL to the federation account, accumulated up to December 31, 2024, have been written off while leaving current liabilities from 2025 operations under ongoing monitoring.
The commission confirmed that all accounting entries reflecting the debt cancellation have been implemented in the Federation Account.
According to the NUPRC, the Presidential approval followed recommendations from the Stakeholder Alignment Committee on the Reconciliation of Indebtedness between NNPC Ltd and the Federation, which reviewed royalty and lifting-related liabilities up to the end of 2024.
2. Nationwide Blackout As National Grid Collapses
Nigeria’s national electricity grid collapsed on Monday, forcing the power sector to switch to emergency supply and leaving the majority of the country without electricity.
Naija News reports that the disruption caused power generation to drop sharply, creating uneven distribution across the country.
Data from the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) showed that total electricity generation fell drastically within an hour, dropping from 2,052.37 megawatts to just 139.92 megawatts between 2 pm and 3 pm.
This sudden decline affected the capacity of distribution companies to supply power.
Out of the 11 electricity distribution companies, only three were able to receive electricity during the collapse. Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) received 80MW, Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) and Benin DisCo each received 20MW.
The remaining distribution companies, including Eko, Enugu, Ikeja, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, Port Harcourt, and Yola, could not access any power from the grid.
Independent monitoring confirmed that as of 3:50 pm on Monday, power supply was still limited to IBEDC, AEDC, and Benin DisCo, while the other distribution companies remained without electricity.

Naija News reports that Makinde, during a recent press conference in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, took a swipe at Wike, stating that others should be allowed to freely choose who they’ll support politically.
He explained that Wike cannot dictate political choices to others.
According to Makinde, he was in a meeting with Wike, President Tinubu and a few others when the former Rivers State Governor declared that he would hold the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Tinubu in 2027.

The City boss, who has enjoyed sustained success throughout his career, stressed that he has never turned on his own club publicly, even during difficult periods.
