Paul Pogba Hails Cristiano Ronaldo As Barcelona, PSG Dominate 2025 Globe Soccer Awards In Dubai
Paul Pogba delivered one of the night’s most heartfelt moments at the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai, using his Best Comeback Award speech to pay tribute to Cristiano Ronaldo, whom he described as a lasting inspiration for footballers across generations.
The 16th edition of the awards ceremony was held on December 28, bringing together the game’s biggest names in the United Arab Emirates. Standing behind the podium with the trophy in hand, Pogba acknowledged the influence Ronaldo has had on his own career and on the sport as a whole.
“Cristiano, you are here, you have inspired all of us as a football player. You did this for the next generation. Big thank you, Cristiano,” Pogba said.
While Pogba’s words set the tone, the night belonged largely to FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, who emerged as the standout clubs of the ceremony.
Barcelona’s teenage sensation Lamine Yamal enjoyed a landmark evening, collecting three major honours. The young forward was named LaLiga’s Best Under-23 Player, Best Forward of the Year, and winner of the prestigious Maradona Award for Best Young Talent.
Reflecting on his rapid rise, Yamal spoke candidly about the pressure that now comes with his growing reputation.
“Last year I was just the kid who had arrived, but now I feel the pressure of being an important player for my club and the national team. Thankfully, everything has gone well,” he said.
“I think the best thing is not to compare yourself to anyone. Players like Cristiano achieved what they did because they wanted to be themselves.”
Asked what supporters should expect from him next, the teenager responded with a smile: “Nothing, my mom’s in charge at home.”
It was a memorable evening all round for the Catalan club. Aitana Bonmatí was crowned Best Female Player of the Year, while Raphinha took home the Best LaLiga Player award. Barcelona coach Hansi Flick was named Best Coach in the Spanish league.
Barcelona were also recognised collectively, winning Best Team in Spain and Best Women’s Club of the Year.
On the men’s side, Ousmane Dembélé was voted Best Men’s Player of the Year, capping a strong season with Paris Saint-Germain. The French giants also celebrated a landmark achievement as they were named Men’s Best Club of the Year for the first time.
Ronaldo, now with Al Nassr, added to his decorated career by winning Best Middle East Player.
