Good morning, Nigeria. Welcome to the Naija News roundup of top newspaper headlines in Nigeria for today, Sunday, 7th December 2025.

1. NAF Confirms Military Jet Crash, Gives Update

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has commended two Alpha Jet pilots for their “exceptional courage and professionalism” after they safely ejected during an in-flight emergency on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at the Nigerian Air Force Base in Kainji, Niger State.

According to a statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the incident occurred shortly after take-off during a post-inspection functional check flight.

The aircraft unexpectedly developed a serious malfunction, prompting the pilots to act swiftly.

The NAF confirmed that the pilots expertly navigated the jet away from residential areas before ejecting, a move that the service described as a demonstration of discipline and sound judgement. Both pilots were rescued and are currently undergoing routine medical evaluations.

Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, praised the bravery of the pilots, emphasising that their actions prevented what could have been a major tragedy.

“Their bravery and professionalism prevented loss of life and reflect the high standards we expect of our personnel,” Aneke said.

He also ordered the immediate formation of a Board of Inquiry to investigate the cause of the aircraft’s malfunction.

The NAF reassured Nigerians of its commitment to maintaining stringent safety protocols and safeguarding the welfare of its personnel.

2. Emefiele Denies Terrorism Financing Allegations

Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has categorically denied allegations that he is involved in financing terrorism, describing the claim as “mischievous” and “malicious.”

In a statement issued on Saturday, December 6, 2025, Emefiele strongly rejected reports linking him to terrorism financing, calling the accusations “fabricated” and “baseless.”

The statement emphasised that the allegations were a deliberate attempt to tarnish his reputation and mislead the public for unclear motives.

Emefiele expressed deep concern over the growing trend of irresponsible reporting, especially on such a serious matter as terrorism financing.

He stated that the fight against terrorism should not be trivialised, and that the Nigerian public deserves better than the “reckless misinformation” being peddled by some media outlets.

3. Former Army Chief, Yahaya Denies Terrorism Financing Allegations

Former Chief of Army Staff, retired Lt.Gen Faruk Yahaya, has vehemently rejected allegations linking him to individuals allegedly involved in terrorism financing, describing the claims as false and malicious.

The accusations, which were published by Sahara Reporters and attributed to retired Maj.-Gen. Danjuma Ali-Keffi, alleged that Yahaya had ties to suspected terror financiers.

However, Yahaya, through a statement issued by his representative, retired Brig.-Gen. Sani Usman, on Saturday in Abuja, dismissed the allegations as “spurious, baseless, and entirely untrue.”

Naija News reports that Yahaya categorically stated that at no point during his career, whether before, during, or after serving as Chief of Army Staff, had he been involved in any terrorism financing or activities that jeopardised national security.

“At no point in his career, before, during, or after serving as Chief of Army Staff, did Lt.-Gen. Yahaya have any direct or indirect association with anyone involved in terrorism financing or activities that undermine national security,” the statement read.

Accusing Ali-Keffi of pursuing a “personal vendetta,” Yahaya attributed the allegations to disciplinary actions taken against Ali-Keffi during his time in service. He further described the publication of the allegations as malicious and lacking any factual basis.

“These allegations run contrary to Gen. Yahaya’s impeccable service record, professional integrity, and lifelong commitment to the defense of Nigeria,” the statement added.

4. Kola Ologbondiyan Resigns From PDP, Cites Personal Reasons

The former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kola Ologbondiyan, has officially resigned from the party, citing personal reasons for his departure.

In a statement posted on 𝕏 on Saturday, Ologbondiyan shared a letter dated December 5, 2025, addressed to the Chairman of Okekoko Ward (09), Kabba/Bunu Local Government, Kogi State, in which he formally notified the party of his decision to leave.

In the letter, titled ‘Notification of Membership Withdrawal’, Ologbondiyan explained that after reflecting on his time in the party, he had concluded that it was time for him to part ways with the PDP.

“It is now imperative to bring your attention to the fact that I have reviewed my participation in the PDP and came to the conclusion that, for personal reasons, I need to make my exit,” he stated.

He emphasised that his decision to withdraw from the party was final, stating, “I have therefore come to a decision to formally withdraw my membership of the PDP, henceforth.”

Despite his resignation, Ologbondiyan expressed gratitude to the party’s leadership for the opportunities to serve both the party and Nigeria. He thanked the leadership for the trust and responsibility granted to him during his tenure in the PDP.

“Let me start by thanking you, as well as other levels of leadership in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), for the opportunities provided for me to serve the party as well as our fatherland, Nigeria,” he wrote in the letter.

5. ‘Kidnappings Political Strategy To Stop Tinubu’s Re-Election, They Tried It With Jonathan’ – Okpebholo

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has claimed that the recent surge in abductions across the country is a deliberate plot aimed at weakening the resolve of President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking during an engagement with Igbo leaders at the Government House in Benin City, the governor alleged that the kidnappings were politically motivated and designed to create fear and instability ahead of political contests.

According to him, a similar strategy was deployed during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

He said, “What they are doing now is that they will go and kidnap people just because they want to discourage Mr President, but he is resolute.”

Okpebholo further alleged that those behind the crimes were motivated by political ambition rather than criminal intent.

6. Akpabio Demands Proof From Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Over Sexual Harassment Allegation

Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, on Saturday, responded to allegations of sexual harassment levelled against him by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, urging her to provide evidence to support her claims.

In a statement issued through his media aide, Jackson Udom, Akpabio called on Akpoti-Uduaghan to substantiate her accusations, emphasising the need for clear and verifiable evidence.

He made this call in a statement titled “Setting the record straight on the defamation case involving Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.”

7. Security Agents Intercept Vehicle Loaded With Bullets On Abuja Highway

A video has surfaced online capturing the moment security operatives seized sacks loaded with live bullets in a golf car on Abuja highway.

The video has since stirred tension as concerned Nigerians online demand a swift investigation and public disclosure of those behind the scary act.

While security agencies are yet to issue an official statement as of the time of filing this report, social critic and public affairs analyst, Mahdi Shehu, has raised fresh security concerns, sharing the video via his 𝕏 account (formerly Twitter) showing security operatives intercepting the large stack of live ammunition.

Shehu warns that the discovery points to deeper, coordinated arms movements within the country.

He disclosed that preliminary details indicated that the ammunition was being transported by a driver acting on instructions.

According to him, “The driver was given the toxic killer bullets to transport. Another person is accompanying the said bullets.”

He added that the telephone contact of the supposed receiver had already been obtained by security personnel.

Shehu insisted that the chain of actors behind the intercepted ammunition must be unravelled, from manufacturers to financiers.

8. Ambassadorial Nominees: ‘President Tinubu Should Withdraw This List’ – Ndume

Former Senate Leader, Ali Ndume, has called on President Bola Tinubu to withdraw the list of ambassadorial nominees recently sent to the Senate for screening and confirmation.

Naija News reports that Ndume made the appeal on Thursday in Abuja, citing concerns that the list violates the Federal Character principle enshrined in Nigeria’s Constitution.

Ndume, representing Borno South, argued that the current composition of the ambassadorial nominees does not reflect the diversity required by the Nigerian Constitution, specifically Section 14(3), which mandates that the composition of government bodies reflect the country’s federal character.

According to Ndume, the list shows an unequal distribution of nominees, with some states having multiple representatives while others are left out.

He pointed out that while states like the Southwest had 15 nominees, the Northeast, which Ndume hails from, has only seven, and Gombe State had no representation at all.

Ndume further highlighted the death of Senator Adamu Garba Talba, the only nominee from Yobe State, who passed away in July. This, he said, added to the inequity of the list, leaving the state unrepresented in the nominations.

Ndume stressed that the issue with the ambassadorial list was not just a matter of optics but one that could undermine national unity and foster ethnic divisions. He urged President Tinubu to reconsider the nominations in the spirit of fairness and inclusivity.

9. ‘I Am Married, But Not In My Husband’s House’ – Sola Allyson

Famous Nigerian gospel artiste, Sola Allyson, has opened up about her marriage, revealing that she does not live with her husband.

In a candid interview on Oyinmomo TV, the 54-year-old singer, known for her hit album Eji Owuro, disclosed that while she is still married, she and her husband live separately.

“I’m married, but I’m not in my husband’s house. We live separately,” she shared, as she spoke openly about her love life and marital experience.

During the interview, Allyson reflected on her love life, revealing that despite her success in music and relationships, she has never experienced the kind of happiness that many people associate with love and marriage.

Asked about her song Eji Owuro and whether she experienced genuine love from her husband, she responded honestly, saying, “We lied before. Those older than us didn’t inform us that it’s tough. They made us believe that so long as you both love each other, you will live happily ever after, but it’s a lie.”

10. “That Is The League” – Arteta Speaks After Arsenal Lose To Villa

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, has insisted that his team would bounce back and move on from the dramatic 2-1 defeat at Aston Villa on Saturday.

According to Arteta, the Gunners have been to a lot of different grounds, and the result could have been different.

He, however, acknowledged that the outcome of Saturday’s game represents one of the highlights of the English Premier League, but remains confident they will handle the mounting pressure.

“That is the league, you go to Old Trafford, you go to St James’ Park, you go to Chelsea, you come here, we have been in a lot of difficult grounds,” he said.

“The result could have been different, the reality is not. We went 18 games unbeaten and still we are there, close to each other.

“That is the level of the league, we know that. That is the opportunity that we have ahead of us and that’s it.

“Now it is time to bounce back, they have given me all the right reasons to think we are going to perform at the same level. We move on. We will learn from today and it will make us a better team,” he said.

Naija News recalls that Arsenal’s title push suffered a painful setback on Saturday after a dramatic late winner saw Aston Villa clinch a 2-1 win at Villa Park.

The Premier League match looked destined for a draw until Emiliano Buendia struck deep into added time to seal all three points for the home side.

Speaking further, Arteta commented on the impact of injuries to some players on the overall output from the team.
