Good morning Nigeria. Welcome to the Naija News roundup of top newspaper headlines in Nigeria for today, Friday, 5th December, 2025

1. President Tinubu Nominates Ibas, Dambazau, Others As Ambassadors

President Bola Tinubu has made some fresh nominations for appointment as non-career ambassadors.

Those on the list include the immediate past sole administrator of Rivers state and former naval chief, Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas.

Others are former senator Ita Enang; former Imo state first lady, Chioma Ohakim; and former Minister of Interior and former Chief of Army Staff, Abdulrahman Dambazau.

The President also nominated Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, Senator Nora Daduut, and Fatima Ajimobi, among others, for appointment as non-career ambassadors.

The letter from President Tinubu, requesting Senate confirmation of the 34 career ambassadors and 31 non-career ambassadors and high commissioners-nominees, was read during plenary on Thursday by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The lists have been referred to the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, which is expected to conduct the screening process and report back to the upper chamber within one week.

2. ‘Nigerians Should Go Back And Sleep With Their Eyes Closed’ – Defence Minister, Musa

Newly sworn-in Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd), has assured Nigerians that the Federal Government’s renewed security strategies will deliver tangible results in the shortest possible time.

Naija News reports that Musa gave the assurance on Thursday shortly after taking the oath of office administered by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Addressing journalists after the ceremony, the minister said his immediate focus is to overhaul the nation’s defence structure and foster stronger collaboration among all security agencies.

“My immediate priority is to make sure that defence takes its place fully in the country,” Musa stated.

He emphasised the need for synergy within the military and with other security outfits, noting that “security is everybody’s responsibility.”

General Musa expressed optimism that better coordination and cooperation would fast-track the resolution of security challenges facing the country.

3. Again, NNPCL Reduces Fuel Price

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has reduced the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), or petrol, for the second time in less than one week.

On Thursday, December 4, 2025, the state-owned oil firm adjusted its retail price by ₦10 per liter, dropping the cost from ₦930 to ₦920 per liter at its filling stations in Abuja, including outlets in Gwarimpa, Kubwa Expressway, and Wuse Zone 4.

This latest adjustment follows an earlier price cut on November 28, 2025, of ₦15 per liter, marking a continuous downward trend at NNPCL retail outlets.

The consistent price reduction is primarily attributed to intensifying competition among major players in Nigeria’s deregulated downstream oil sector, particularly between NNPCL and the Dangote Petroleum Refinery.

4. You Behave More Like A Political Candidate Than A President, Step Aside! – ADC Fires Tinubu

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for allegedly kick-starting his 2027 re-election bid while the country remains under a state of emergency.

In a statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC called it a cynically insensitive action that makes nonsense of the emergency declaration itself.

The party criticised the President’s distribution of branded vehicles to campaign agents across the country even as kidnapped citizens languish in captivity and security forces struggle to contain escalating violence and banditry.

The ADC stated that by launching his re-election campaign under the guise of “Renewed Hope Ambassadors”, Tinubu is acting more like a presidential candidate focused on re-election than a President of a beleaguered nation under emergency rule, with worsening security crises engulfing the country.

The party also alleges that the President’s action is a patent violation of the Electoral Act and the INEC timetable.

5. ADC Coalition Shaky As Peter Obi Insists He Remains Labour Party Member

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, says the coalition with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is facing setbacks due to unresolved issues around zoning and rotation of key political offices.

Obi, who made the remarks during a YouTube interview with ‘Advocacy for Good Governance’ on Wednesday, emphasised the need for clarity and consensus within the alliance.

The former Anambra State governor, who insisted that he remains a member of the LP, stressed that the coalition must settle internal disagreements and align on a common vision for Nigeria.

6. Insecurity: Why Haven’t You Named, Exposed Terror Sponsors? – PENGASSAN Tackles FG

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has called on the Federal Government to immediately name and prosecute sponsors of terrorism in the country, warning that the rising wave of kidnappings and insecurity poses a serious threat to national development.

Naija News reports that the union’s president, Festus Osifo, made the call on Thursday in Abuja during a press conference following the union’s National Executive Council meeting.

“We have all seen how insecurity has been plaguing our land, how this particular challenge has worsened in the last few weeks,” Osifo said.

Osifo expressed frustration at repeated government statements without action.

The PENGASSAN president also criticised the delay in establishing state police, describing it as a necessity, not an option.

Updating on the union’s unresolved industrial action against Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd, Osifo said negotiations are ongoing but key issues remain.

7. I Have Spent Years Lifting Others, I’m Now Focusing On Myself 100% – Olamide

Ace Nigerian rapper and music executive, Olamide Adedeji, popularly known as Olamide Baddo, has disclosed that he is currently in a new phase of life focused entirely on himself.

Speaking in a recent interview with Flow 98.7 FM, the YBNL boss said he has long been balancing between helping others and pursuing his personal music journey, but has now chosen to focus squarely on his own well-being and growth.

“Right now, I’m at the phase in my life where I’m really trying to give myself undivided attention,” he said.

Olamide reflected on his years of supporting others in the industry, noting that he has always tried to be available for those around him while managing his own career.

8. Teniola Aladese Faults Poor Pay Structure For Actors In Nollywood

Nigerian Actress Teniola Aladese has raised concerns about how actors are treated in Nollywood.

Naija News reports that in an interview, she said that many performers still receive far less than they deserve because people rarely discuss how much they are paid.

She explained that the silence around earnings has created a system that often leaves actors accepting whatever figures they are offered.

Aladese recalled a past conversation with a colleague on a movie set that opened her eyes to how much money actually moves within the industry.

She said many actors agree to low fees because they believe the budget is fixed, when in reality some films set aside far more for certain roles than what is eventually offered to the actors who play them.

She explained that this culture of secrecy has made many performers unaware of their true value, leading to a wide gap between what some actors earn and what others take home for the same level of work.

9. Super Eagles Captain, Troost-Ekong Retires From International Football Weeks Before AFCON

Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has stepped away from international football in a move that has stunned many supporters, coming less than a month before the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations kicks off in Morocco.

William Troost-Ekong, 32, announced his retirement on 𝕏 earlier today, posting a short message to confirm his decision. He wrote that he was “honoured” and “forever a Super Eagle”, drawing a curtain on a decade with the national team. During that period he made 83 appearances, scored eight goals and won three AFCON medals.

Troost-Ekong wrote: “Honoured. Grateful. Forever a Super Eagle 🦅🇳🇬

“Playing for Nigeria has been the greatest privilege of my life. The journey may end here, but my support never will.

“Here’s to the next chapter.”

10. Sunday Oliseh Claims Real Madrid Eyeing Osimhen As Possible Vinicius Replacement

Former Super Eagles captain and coach, Sunday Oliseh, has hinted that Victor Osimhen could be on Real Madrid’s transfer list ahead of the summer window, with the Spanish champions said to be tracking the Nigerian striker closely.

Oliseh believes Madrid may look to Osimhen as a long-term replacement for Vinicius Junior, whose future at the Bernabéu remains uncertain. The Brazilian winger has not yet signed a new deal, and his current contract runs until the summer of 2027.

Osimhen made a permanent switch to Galatasaray last summer after leaving Napoli. Despite injury setbacks, he has scored six Champions League goals this season and remains one of the most respected forwards in Europe.

Speaking on the Insight Podcast, Oliseh said the possibilities at Madrid have shifted following the arrival of Kylian Mbappé. According to him, Mbappé could slot into the left wing if Vinicius leaves, leaving space for Osimhen to lead the attack.
