Good morning Nigeria. Welcome to the Naija News roundup of top newspaper headlines in Nigeria for today, Sunday, 30th November, 2025.

1. Tinubu Appoints Fani-Kayode, Omokri, Yakubu, Others As Ambassadors (See List)

President Bola Tinubu has appointed several new non-career ambassadors, days after submitting some names to the National Assembly for confirmation.

Among those freshly named for ambassadorial positions are former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, former presidential media aide, Reno Omokri, former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu, former Enugu governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, former Ekiti First Lady, Erelu Angela Adebayo, former First Lady of Oyo, Fatima Florence Ajimobi, former governor of Abia, Victor Okezie Ikpeazu.

Naija News understands that a total of 32 new ambassadors were nominated by President Tinubu, and the names have been forwarded to the Senate for confirmation.

The breakdown includes 15 Career Ambassadors, 17 Non-Career Ambassadors and 10 women included across both.

The new envoys are expected to be posted to China, India, the UAE, Canada, South Africa, the UN, the AU, and UNESCO.

More names to be announced soon, according to the Presidency.

The fresh list comes days after the first batch of 3 nominees expected to be sent to the UK, US, and France was released by the presidency.

In a post on his X account on Wednesday, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the president nominated non-career ambassadors for three countries: the United States, the United Kingdom, and France.

Naija News reports that the postings will be finalised following Senate screening.

2. Jonathan Visits Tinubu, Briefs Him On Guinea-Bissau Coup

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Saturday received former President Goodluck Jonathan at the Presidential Villa.

Naija News reports that this was made known by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Recall that Jonathan had just returned to Nigeria from Guinea-Bissau.

The former President was in the West African country on an election monitoring mission.

There were concerns about his safety following a military takeover in Guinea-Bissau.

Speaking to State House correspondence, Jonathan said: “That election was concluded, the results are known and the winner of the election must be announced… ECOWAS leadership should reach out to the military leadership to release the opposition leader and announce the result.”

3. Nigeria Secures Return To IMO Council As Tinubu Hails ‘Strong Global Endorsement’

President Bola Tinubu has celebrated Nigeria’s election into the Council of the International Maritime Organisation for the 2026 to 2027 term, describing it as “a strong affirmation of the country’s growing maritime influence and its constructive role in global shipping governance.”

Nigeria reclaimed its seat in Category C of the IMO Council during the organisation’s General Assembly in London on Friday, November 28, bringing the country back into the fold of global maritime decision makers after being away for 14 years.

In a statement issued on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President said the outcome “reflects the international community’s confidence in the nation’s commitment to safety, security, environmental stewardship, and rules-based maritime operations.”

Tinubu praised the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, along with staff of the ministry, the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, and Nigeria’s diplomatic corps for what he called their dedication, strategic engagement, and professionalism throughout the election process.

Speaking on the importance of Nigeria’s return to the Council, the President said, “The new IMO Council mandate aligns with my administration’s drive to unlock the full potential of Nigeria’s blue economy, expand maritime infrastructure, strengthen anti-piracy initiatives, and improve the nation’s standing as a regional shipping hub.”

He assured the global maritime community that Nigeria is ready to contribute meaningfully to collective priorities, pledging support for “safer seas, cleaner oceans, more efficient maritime transport systems, and to champion cooperation, innovation, and fairness in global maritime regulation.”

Tinubu also expressed gratitude to member states for backing Nigeria, promising that “Nigeria will justify the trust reposed in it through sustained leadership and active contribution to the advancement of international maritime objectives.”

With this development, Nigeria now joins 19 other countries in Category C, which is reserved for states with special interests in maritime transport and navigation. The victory reinforces the country’s growing profile as an emerging naval and shipping hub on the African continent.

4. ‘Nigeria’s Diversity Not Burden But Gift’ – Marwa

The Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Buba Marwa, has urged Nigerians to always remember that the country’s diversity is not a burden but a gift and a trust that all must safeguard.

Naija News reports that NDLEA Director, Media & Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, in a statement on Saturday, disclosed that Marwa made the remark while delivering the keynote address at the public presentation of a book, Buni Boy, written by late legal luminary Niyi Ayoola-Daniels in Abuja.

Marwa said he has long been an advocate of unity in diversity and the strength that rises from it.

He recalled that, as Military Administrator of Lagos State, the Yoruba people showed him great love and supported his administration despite their hostility toward the federal government at the time.

According to Marwa, the support he received from Lagos encouraged him to conduct a free and fair election that brought his successor to office.

Marwa emphasised that Nigeria may face its own peculiar challenges due to the poor management of its diversity over the years.

5. Northern Govs’ Summit Shifted As North-West Engages Senate

A meeting of the 19 northern state governors, earlier scheduled for November 29 in Kaduna State, has been postponed as governors from the seven North-West states engage in a separate security session with federal authorities.

The summit, initially convened by the Northern Governors Forum, was organised to review the resurgence of terrorist attacks sweeping parts of Northern Nigeria, especially mining belts, rural highways, and communities reporting spikes in school abductions.

The governors from the seven North-West states are now locked in a high-level security meeting involving the Senate Committee on Army and top security commanders from the region.

According to TheCable, the discussions are focused on “persistent threats confronting the zone,” signalling a rare alignment of state and federal security councils.

Communities in Niger, Kebbi and Kwara have faced renewed attacks in recent weeks, with abductions from schools, highways and rice farms stoking public anxiety.

Meanwhile, Peter Ahemba, Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to the Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule, earlier confirmed plans for the November 29 meeting and the involvement of traditional rulers.

6. I Challenge You To Provide Evidence That I Undermined Security – Barau Dares Gov Yusuf

The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, has challenged the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, to provide evidence that he made a statement undermining the security of the state.

He stated this in response to claims made by the Kano State Government following its 34th Executive Council Meeting.

The government had alleged that one of Barau’s statements could weaken ongoing security efforts in the state.

Reacting via a statement released by his media aide, Ismail Mudashir, the senator dismissed the accusation.

He urged the governor to stop politicising security issues and instead focus on solving the state’s problems.

Barau asserted that insecurity in the country, including bandit attacks in parts of Kano, requires cooperation from everyone.

7. You Are Searching For Scapegoats To Conceal Your Failure – Ganduje Fires Back At Gov Yusuf

Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has described the call for his arrest as irresponsible.

Naija News reported that the Kano State government had called for Ganduje’s arrest, claiming that bandits had infiltrated Kano communities and abducted several people less than 48 hours after the former governor’s outburst about wanting to create a militia group in the state.

Reacting in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu, Ganduje stated that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf was busy chasing shadows instead of addressing the insecurity situation in the state.

“It is deeply unfortunate that rather than addressing the escalating insecurity ravaging the state, Governor Yusuf has chosen to chase shadows while searching for scapegoats to conceal his glaring failures,” he said.

According to Ganduje, communities in Bagwai, Shanono, Tsanyawa, and other areas have faced repeated attacks, yet the governor has neither visited nor shown empathy toward the victims.

8. Lere Paimo Is Alive, Not Dead – ANTP

The Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (ANTP) has dismissed reports claiming that veteran Nollywood actor, Olalere Paimo, is dead.

Celebrity journalist and Chairman of the Best of Nollywood Awards, Seun Oleketuyi, earlier announced the death of the movie star in an Instagram post on Saturday.

According to Oleketuyi, Paimo, a cultural icon, survived a stroke twice before his demise.

He wrote, “Chief Lere Paimo (MON) is dead. Baba died at age 86.

“A strong man. Baba survived a stroke twice. May Baba’s soul rest in peace.”

However, the ANTP, in a statement signed by the National Public Relations Officer, Prince Adejonwo Oluwafemi Femson, and released on Saturday, confirmed that the actor, popularly known as Baba Eda Onile Ola, is alive and in good health.

The statement read, “We would like to inform the public that reports circulating on Facebook about the passing of Chief Olalere OsunPaimo (MFR) are false.

“We have confirmed with Baba Eda Onile Ola’s wife that he is alive and in good health.

“Please disregard these false reports and be aware that they are being spread by unscrupulous individuals.”

ANTP urged the public to verify information before sharing unconfirmed reports, warning against the spread of misinformation.

9. It Is Witchcraft – I Go Save Knocks Nigerians Celebrating Burna Boy’s Cancelled Shows

Nigerian comedian, I Go Save, has berated Nigerians for mocking Afrobeats superstar, Burna Boy, over the cancellation of some of his shows.

Naija News reports that a few weeks ago, Burna Boy interrupted his performance and asked a female fan to leave his show after he spotted her sleeping during his performance.

Following the incident, some Nigerians in America called for his show to be boycotted.

Two days ago, his shows in Chicago and Minneapolis were cancelled due to poor ticket sales.

The Grammy-winning artist addressed the incident during a recent show in Dallas, offering an apology to his fans and asking for understanding over the situation.

He said, “I know my ticket sales are suffering since that incident. Even the coffee I introduced no one is buying. So please, I am sorry to everyone and everything I said. It was a slip of tongue.”

Netizens who were pleased with the development have taken to the internet to share their joy.

Reacting in a post shared on Instagram Stories, I Go Save berated those who were celebrating the cancellation and equated their actions to ‘witchcraft.”

He argued that God would continue to bless people he wants, regardless of human hatred.

10. Finidi George Heartbroken Over Rivers United’s Champions League Loss To RS Berkane

Nigeria’s Rivers United endured a cruel 2-1 defeat to RS Berkane in their second CAF Champions League group stage game, leaving coach Finidi George disappointed.

Nigeria’s Rivers United endured a cruel 2-1 defeat to RS Berkane in their second CAF Champions League group stage game, leaving coach Finidi George disappointed.

After a 3-0 opening loss to Egypt’s Pyramids, Rivers United desperately needed a win at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium to keep their hopes of progressing alive.

For much of the first half, it appeared they were on track. An own goal by RS Berkane’s Mamadou Camara in the 37th minute handed the home side a 1-0 lead, and Finidi’s men dominated proceedings without doubling their advantage.

However, the second half told a different story. RS Berkane gradually wrestled control, testing Rivers United’s defence repeatedly. Despite holding firm, the Nigerian side’s resistance crumbled during stoppage time.

Youness El Kaabi equalised in the 97th minute from a set piece, and barely a minute later, Mounir Chouair struck again after a deflected Rivers United clearance left the defence exposed.

Finidi George admitted the timing of the goals was particularly painful. “To concede two in two minutes is heartbreaking. The players showed spirit, but we have to learn from this,” the former Super Eagles coach said.

The loss leaves Rivers United at the bottom of Group A with zero points. Their next fixture, a trip to Power Dynamos in Zambia, will be crucial. Any further slip-ups could end their Champions League campaign prematurely, making January’s return to the competition a must-win scenario.
